To assist with the improvement, care and maintenance of the American Lake Veterans Golf Course to enable disabled veterans to rehabilitate themselves both physically and emotionally, so all military personnel and veterans can enjoy the benefits of golf in a positive, therapeutic and accepting social environment.
Improvements to the course that will allow those with mobility disabilities to play the entire course in safety and comfort.
Continue purchase of specialized equipment such as SoloRider golf carts and specially built golf clubs so that those with disabilities, including missing or paralyzed limbs, can play the game of golf. Purchase of appropriate equipment and improvements to existing buildings, signage, and facilities that will allow the volunteers to keep the course in a high quality condition so that it is accessible, safe and enjoyable for all, but especially those with disabilities.
Through teaching and our First Swing Clinics, highlight the various life skills that can be learned through the game in order to help participants cope with and recover from their injuries and provide active duty military personnel and veterans of all backgrounds, life enhancing values through golf.
Finish the driving range hitting and activities areas to protect those who are being taught and those participating in events.
Finish the acquisition and installation of disability accessible picnic tables in the Activities area, and equipment in the Activities area to make it more useable for a variety of events.
Construct and outfit a new Rehabilitation and Learning Center to replace the very cramped and inadequate old facility to include a great room for the enjoyment of patients, men’s and women’s locker rooms/bathrooms, club storage area, business counter, refreshment center and offices. This facility will be completely accessible to those with disabilities.
Install a new 100 KVA transformer to replace the temporary 35 KVA transformer that is being used to power golf carts and other electrical needs at the course.
Make more improvements on the course that provide safety and make the course accessible to those with mobility disabilities.
Add benches and three ADA accessible portable restrooms for those with mobility disabilities on the course and upgrade walking path and exercise stations.
Continue upgrades to the storage facilities, maintenance area, parking and access.
Purchase additional course maintenance equipment to continue course accessibility improvements and to continue to increase participation.
